Photographer Fabio Taccola put together this overview of the Vismara 62 Mills SuperNikka’s year from conception to competition for a celebration dinner in Pisa in November.

‘SuperNikka’ the silver Vismara 62 Mills Racer/Cruiser of Roberto Lacorte won the Mini-Maxi Racer class at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in the beautiful setting of Porto Cervo, Sardinia. Racing on challenging coastal courses under the tactical guidance of Tommaso Chieffi she counted a 1,1,1,2 to take the Mini-Maxi Racer class after very close competition between the top three boats.

SuperNikka is a high performance hybrid, combining racing speed with a genuine cruising capability including tender garage, recessed dodger, lifting keel, and a spacious light interior. Hulls 2 and 3 are under construction at Vismara Marine in different configurations to reflect each owners wishes. Photographer Fabio Taccola followed SuperNikka throughout the event, producing some fantastic images of a superb week.  In the Maxi Class Mills Design assisted Windfall with a new bulb and sprit, fitted just before the event to help win her class.

The Vismara 62 Mills ‘SuperNikka’ for Roberto Lacorte was launched at a gala celebration last week, attended by hundreds in the beautiful new port of Marina Di Pisa in Italy. This aggressive 62’ Cruiser/Racer was developed with a team including Vismara Marine, North Sails Italy, and Roberto and his wife Luisa.  The first event for this hybrid part racer/part family cruiser will be the 151 Miglia, an offshore race created by Roberto some years ago and now growing to be one of the strongest in the Lugurian Sea.  Construction of a more cruising oriented version of this design is already underway for a second client.

Our latest project is the sleek and aggressive 62′ SuperNikka for Italian owner Roberto Lacorte.   Built in semi custom series by Vismara Marine as the VISMARA 62 Mills she is a unique combination of light powerful carbon racer and fully featured family cruiser, based on a chined light offshore-oriented raceboat hull with tall rig and deep lifting keel, perfect for targeting Mediterranean racing with his existing team.  A keen racer and creator of the 151 Miglia offshore race Mr. Lacorte also enjoys cruising every summer with his family, and needs his yacht to be as functional as it is fast to provide the best of both worlds.  To help deliver this in 2013 he asked Mills Design to join the team producing his latest yacht, including builder and experienced designer Alessandro Vismara of Vismara Marine and North Sails Italy who have been part of his previous successful programs.

We were excited to join this group tasked with producing the exterior geometry: hull and deck surfaces, appendages, and rig, allowing us to focus on performance with our R&D partners KND in Valencia, while the Vismara team produced the interior and engineering, integrating her aggressive racing character with amenities such as the lifting keel, a dinghy garage in the transom, and underdeck dodger stowage.  Due to launch in Spring 2015, hull lamination is complete and deck and bulkhead construction is well advanced.
